Zdzisław Palewicz received a commendation in Świdnik

The Mayor of Šalčininkai District Municipality Zdzisław Palewicz paid an official visit to Świdnik where he took part in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the acquisition of city rights. During the celebration, the Mayor of Šalčininkai District Municipality received a Bene Merengi Cicitati commendation.

Among the invited guests, there were the authorities of the voivodship, powiat (district) and city. The Mayor of the city of Świdnik Waldemar Jakson emphasised the great achievements of the city and thanked the inhabitants of the city for their contribution and being active for their little motherland.

During the jubilee celebration, Bene Merengi Cicitati commendations were given by the authorities of the city to the Mayor of Šalčininkai District Municipality Zdzisław Palewicz.

I am pleased to receive this commendation that is in a way the summary of our good co-operation and also a great commitment to develop the relations between Świdnik and Šalčininkai,” said the Mayor of Šalčininkai District Municipality Z. Palewicz.

The agreement of co-operation between the local government of Šalčininkai District Municipality and Świdnik city was signed several years ago and it was connected mainly with contacts in the field of education and sport.

The friendship between our District and Świdnik has lasted for decades. It is connected with the flight of Tadeusz Góra in 1938 from Bezmiechowa near Świdnik to Šalčininkėliai in the glider PWS-101. The distance was almost 578 km. It was the world record. In 2006 in Šalčininkėliai on the bulding of a local school, a plaque commemorating this feat was uncovered. The authorities of Świdnik also took part in the celebration and it was the beginning of the good co-operation between two local governments.
