AWPL wants to come back to power in the Trakų region
The opposition of the Local Government Board of the Trakų region which includes, among others, representatives of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, initiated a motion of no confidence against the mayor of the region – Vytautas Zalieckas. If the dismissal of the mayor is possible, AWPL can come back to power in the region.
Nine politicians of opposition parties submitted the interpellation in re the removal of the mayor, his deputy Wojciech Winskiewicz and the director of administration Renatas Dūdis as well as his deputy Vitalija Burdienė. The appropriate document was submitted to the local government on Friday (the 25th of July).
“The mayor cannot consolidate democratically elected representatives – members of the board – to work together,” we can read in the text of the interpellation.
“Since Friday we have no news from the local government. We have only received information that the board meeting which according to the statute should be held on the first Thursday of the month, that is on August 7, will be postponed to August 28. The mayor did not provide reasons for that decision,” says the councilor of the Trakų region on behalf of AWPL Maria Pucz.
She adds that after all, opposition parties will try to convene the meeting of the board on time.
To dismiss the mayor in the secret ballot 13 votes of councilors are needed. 25 councilors work in the Trakų region. Unofficially it is said that the interpellation will be espoused not only by opposition politicians but also by representatives of the ruling coalition. Then AWPL will have a chance to come back to power.
“Of course we strive for it. We have been waiting for a long time. Far too long,” says Maria Pucz.
