A Virtual trip to the unseen parts of Vilnius district.

‘You do not have to be a deep researcher, but under the shameful punishment is a person who does not know the country where he lives or ,what is worse, knows other countries better than native’. Władysław Syrokomla.

Summer is the most beautiful and the best time for journeys. In order to discover more about your native country you should at first acquaint yourself with your locality. Therefore we suggest taking a trip to the unseen parts of Vilnius district.

The Vilnius District Municipality together with its partner – Oshmiany Executive Committee in Belarus (pl. Oszmiański Komitet Wyconawczy) in 2013 set off a project ‘Dwa kraje – wspólna kultura i historia’ (‘Two countries –common culture and history’) which was financed according to the program of boarding cooperation of the European Neighbourhood PolicyENP (pl. Europejska Polityka Sąsiedztwa) and the Partnership of Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. As we have in our region lots of really gripping things of our natural and cultural heritage, one result of the project is a virtual boarding hiking trail – ‘Szlak historyczny Wyżyny Oszmiańskiej’ (‘Historical Path of the Oshmiany Upland’). The virtual tour includes the following parts of Vilnius District:   Nemėžis (pl. Niemież), Medininkai (pl. Miedniki Królewskie), Borejkowszczyzna, Lavoriškės (pl.Ławaryszki, Kalvelių (pl. Kowalczuki), Rukainių (pl. Rukojnie) andlocatedinBelarusHalshany (pl. Holszany), Baruny(pl. Boruny),Oshmiany (pl. Oszmiany) and different other settlements. Information is given in Lithuanian, Polish, Belarusian and English language.

Virtual hiking trail ‘Szlakami historycznymi Wyżyny Oszmiańskiej’ creates the feeling of reality and allows a viewer seeing the boarding areas of Lithuania and Belarus without going out. This is an interactive range of photos. You can choose the direction of your trip alone just using your mouse. In the panoramic photograph are visible 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically. It means that it is identical to the view that a person gets turning his head.

During the virtual tour you have the opportunity to see the most significant monuments, cultural and natural sites and feel ecstatic about seeing gripping views of the area aerial. Just one click –and you will observe the four decorated exhibition halls in dungeons of the Miednicki Castle (pl. Zamek Miednickiego), the Daubėnų’s nature reserve, the mosque in Nemėžis, the Władysław Syrokomli’s museum in Borejkowszczyzna and lots of other amazing places and buildings of the Vilnius District.

‘Szlakami historycznymi Wyżyny Oszmiańskiej’ is a gate for those who want to discover more about the natural and cultural heritage of the Vilnius District. So we warmly invite everyone to try out virtual tour which you can find on www.vrsa.lt -> turistui -> Ašmenos aukštumos istoriniais keliais and then to come and see in the flesh the treasures of culture and nature of the Vilnius District.
