The death of Stanisław Michalkiewicz

On June 13, 2014 after a long and serious illness, at the age of 57 passed away Stanisław Michalkiewicz, the broadcaster, long-time dancer of the Song and Dance Ensemble “Wilia”, announcer.

Stanisław Michalkiewicz was a famous person on Wileńszczyźna. A teacher of Polish language by profession, he devoted most of his life working as a radio reporter. As the editor of the Polish editorial of The Lithuanian Radio he was the chronicler of the life of Wileńszczyźna, illuminated cultural and social events. With his microphone he was a welcome guest in houses of well-known and less known people, who willingly narrating him traditions and customs of the various parts of the Wileńszczyźna.

Many years he devoted to the Song and Dance Ensemble “Wilia” as the dancer and announcer. Stanisław was an unchangeable presenter of the competition “Dziewczyna ” (“The girl”) of the “Kurier Wileński” and enterprises organized by the Association of Teachers of Polish Schools in Lithuania“Macierz Szkolna” and ceremonies to give awards to the best teachers and schools. As a juror he participated in oratory and theatrical competitions organized by “Macierz Szkolna”.

He dedicated himself to his professional work till last days of his life. Bravely fighting with serious disease he was still conducting interviews and preparing programs.

He was the son, brother, husband and the father of three gripping kids: Konrad, Rafał and Justyna.

He will be buried in the cemetery in Paluliszki.
