Rita Tamasuniene will be the leader of the Polish faction in the Lithuanian Seimas. The EAPL formed an eight person faction as soon as Irina Rozova and Zbigniew Jedzinski, who had replaced Waldemar Tomaszewski and Zdzislaw Palewicz, took their constitutional oath..

The first task of a Seimas foreman, which is also Tamasuniene’s task, is deciding if the parliamentary immunity of the colleagues from the Labour Party should be waived or not. The Speaker of the Seimas, Vydas Gedvilas, has announced that this matter will be resolved at the upcoming gathering. “It is the foremen of the factions who should decide on this matter” – he said. The first gathering of the factions’ foremen and the first Seimas plenary session will be held next Tuesday.

On Thursday the General Prosecutor’s Office filed a request to the Seimas to bring to justice and restrict personal liberty of three members of the Labour Party – Viktor Uspaskich, Vytautas Gapsys and Vitalija Vonzutaite. Those Members of Parliament are accused of misappropriation of funds. None of them admit their charges.

The Polish Seimas faction, apart from the Members already mentioned above, also comprises of: Wanda Krawczonek, Jozef Kwiatkowski, Jaroslaw Narkiewicz, Michal Mackiewicz and Leonard Talmont. The deputy leader of Rita Tamasuniene is Wanda Krawczonek. The Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania has its own faction in the Seimas for the first time in history.

Rita Tamasuniene (born on the 27th of September 1973 in Maišiagala, Vilnius district municipality) – a teacher, a municipality official, a Member of Parliament of Polish nationality. In the parliamentary elections in October Tamasuniene was a candidate on behalf of the EAPL in the Vilnius-Sirvintos constituency. In the second round she defeated Zivila Pinskuviene from the Labour Party and was elected a Member of Parliament. Rita Tamasuniene was voted for by 60,53 perc. of the voters and Zivila Pinskoviene – 39,47 perc.
