Ministry of Education and Science: It is impossible to provide education in a minority language for one student only

DELFI (Š.Mažeikos nuotr.)

Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania claims that education in a minority language can be provided for students of nationality using the particular language only if there is a certain number of them attending school.

Ministry of Education and Science expressed a negative opinion on the amendment submitted by the Deputy Speaker of Seimas Jarosław Narkiewicz that stipulates that in areas densely populated by national minorities, at least one class should have an opportunity to be educated in a minority language.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, accepting the amendment would mean that secondary education should be provided even for one student only, which would be unprofitable considering the costs. The ministry suggested rejection of the amendment.
