Run in Vilnius on occasion of 10th anniversary of Polish presence in the EU

More than 2500 runners took part in the run “10 kilometers for 10 years in the European Union”  (10 for 10), organized by Polish embassy in Lithuania and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lithuania. There were sportsmen and amateurs of running from 14 countries worldwide at different ages.

The event was inaugurated by the chief of Lithuanian diplomacy Linas Linkevičius and ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Lithuania Jaroslaw Czubinski. Among runners there were also diplomats and politicians. Participating in the run was also a group of Polish soldiers who are guarding the airspace of Baltic countries as a part of NATO’s mission “Baltic Air Policing”.

Contestants could choose the route of 1,5 kilometers or 10 kilometers – according to their stamina and condition. Everyone received a commemorative medal on a finish line. As organizers wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Polish and Lithuanian entrance to the European Union in a sporty way.

In the 10th kilometer event the 1st place among men was taken by Justinas Beržanskis whereas the highest place on the podium was taken by  Rasa Drazdauskaitė. The winner of 5 kilometer distance was Dovydas Stašys, among women the first on the finish line was Rūta Marija Trimonytė. The winner of 1 kilometer length was Vitalijus Kozlovas.
