“The negotiations for the deputy speaker’s position in parliament have already been concluded. Nonetheless, the person to take up this function is yet to be appointed.”, said the leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (EAPL), Valdemar Tomaševsky, in an interview given for the Radio “Znad Wilii” ( “From the Neris River”)

According to the party’s president, the place in the Seimas had to be given to Irina Rozova of the Russian Alliance. Providing the reasons for his resignation, Tomaševsky stated: “The Supreme Council of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania has approved the decision on fulfilling our obligations to the partners during the election campaign. Therefore, Irina Rozova will occupy my position from now on (…). I believe my decision to be fully justified, since we stood together in elections.”

Jaroslav Narkevič may be elected as the deputy speaker of the parliament. EAPL leader adds: “I would resign from the mandate of the European Parliament if one of our representatives was chosen as the deputy speaker. However, it is simply not the case at this point in time. Hence, we’ve reached a decision on my resignation from a seat in the Seimas. The negotiations for the deputy speaker’s position in parliament have already been concluded. Nonetheless, the person to take up this function is yet to be appointed. The parliamentary law allows for the maximum of seven deputy speakers, including two kinds of MPs: one representing EAPL and one representing the opposition party. Jaroslav Narkevič seems as a suitable candidate for this post.”

One minister and four vice-ministers are going to represent EAPL in the parliament. Tomaševsky said: “As of today, we’ve successfully negotiated appointing one minister and four vice-ministers from our ranks (one vice-minister would hold the position in our Ministry, while the remaining three would take up jobs in the Ministries governed by politicians from other parties). We must be granted the posts of vice-ministers of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Agriculture. However, this matter is still open to discussion.”

Additionally, the politician stressed that one of the party members will be designated as the President of Parliamentary Committee. Moreover, EAPL hopes to be in charge of the Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development that deals with rural areas’ development and the acts on land reimbursement. The party also expressed its interest in the Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities.

Tomaševsky informed the listeners that “the plans outlined in party’s election manifesto will be put on the government agenda, the examples of which include: the widespread biofuel use, higher public subsidies on local road’s renovation, fair land reimbursement, prompt implementation of the agriculture reform and of the already drafted act on the national minorities.”
