Grybauskaitė in Dziewieniszki: this district was able to unite students of different nationalities

At school of business and technology in Dziewieniszki graduates of 50th launching received diplomas. In the ceremony participated president of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė who said that the rate of employment in the region is not bad.

“I’m now in the room and in the district that has great and deep roots. That was capable of uniting students of different nationalities – Lithuanians, Poles, Belarusians. You are in the cross-border area and this means agglomeration of all of these cultures. For all the centuries you were able to stay together and live in peace. Your school is symbolizing Lithuanian ground with different origins, a cluster of different people. I am glad that this school could prepare people who has been needed not only in here but also at all Lithuanian areas for 50 years”, said president of  the Republic of Lithuania.

This year, from school in Dziewieniszki graduated 47 students. This establishment is training the hairdressers, cooks, mechanists and organizers of agritourism. During short press conference the president emphasizes that vocational education is very important for the country because the business needs qualified blue-collar workers. “This region as well as vocational learning needs attention because minor business in Lithuania needs better prepared labor force. The most important thing is that these possibilities were created for inhabitants of this district so that they could have work and they were not forced to leave the country. I came here to express my support for this school and for educational system in East Lithuania”, said the head of Lithuanian country.

According to the president, the rate of employment in Solecznicki region is not bad. “Particularly in this district, the numbers of people in employment are satisfying, these are numbers around 60-63% . Some people are coming to get the second job. Most importantly, this is vocational school and thus students are receiving not only general education but also a definite occupation. The school has dormitories and prices are not unreasonable”, emphasized Grybauskaitė.

The greatest part of graduates had surnames that sounded like polish ones but there were also Lithuanian or Russian surnames. “I am very happy that people of different nationalities are learning here in Lithuanian. This is Lithuanian school but the surnames were indicators that there were also students from Poland, Russia or Lithuania. They all live in friendship”, said Grybauskaitė.

According to her, this school has perspectives and Ministry of National Education promised to pay some attention to this establishment. “The school needs more attention, especially from the ministry as it is a place that is subordinate to the educational system and we can still tell what the conditions of this school are – living, conditions to study, to engage in sports. There are not really good, even the stairs were built in the 60s and they were not renovated”, flagged up the president.

The representatives of the educational system took part in the celebration. Even Zdzisław Palewicz, the official of the Solecznicki region arrived. The host of the region was not asked to speak and he was not asked for the group shot at school hall. The official of the region explained that the fact that he wasn’t able to speak has nothing to do with the politics. “ I am the host in the grounds of this region but the school is a part of the educational system and there is even a protocol confirming the presidential visit. According to this protocol, only the president has the right to speak. Anyway, I had knew about it earlier. The most important thing is that this meeting has already happened and the president had the opportunity to watch the situation”, said Z. Palewicz.

The school of business and technology in Dziewiniszki was established in 1963.
