Edward Klonowski appointed lieutenant

The Polish Embassy in Vilnius informed that Edward Klonowski was appointed lieutenant at the ceremony which took place on the 16th October.

Ambassador Jarosław Czubiński and Consul General Stanisław Cygnarowski took part in the ceremony. Colonel Zbigniew Szlęk (military attaché) handed over the act of appointment.

Colonel Szlęk also decorated lieutenant Stefan Sawicki with a medal awarded by the Józef Piłsudski Polish Reserve Officers Association.

Lieutenant Edward Klonowski, pseudonym Cuhalt , was a soldier of the Home Army and took part in the Operation Ostra Brama. Nowadays he is a member of the Home Army Inmates Soldiers Association and a vice-president of the Polish Ex-Combatants’ Association in Lithuania.

He has spent the last 20 years building monuments and soldier’s quarters, national remembrance boards and taking care of the Polish soldiers’ graves. Edward Klonowski together with the Polish Ex-Combatants’ Association in Lithuania took part in the building of over 200 remembrance monuments. For those remarkably patriotic activities he was awarded first silver, and then gold medal from the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom of the Polish Nation.
