Harvest Festival in Savičiūnai

Harvest Festival took place in Savičiūnai (near Rukainiai) on 7th September. It was organised by the administrator of the Cultural Centre in Savičiūnai Wanda Jermakowicz and the Head of the Rukainiai Branch of the Association of Poles in Lithuania Bożena Stelmakowa.

The Harvest Festival began with a thanksgiving mass in the Archangel Michael Church in Rukainiai. The mass was celebrated by rev. Jan Matusewicz who consecrated crops from fields and gardens and the bread baked from this year’s grain harvest.

The festival was held by the Cultural Centre in Savičiūnai. Residents of nearby villages decorated their stalls with diverse smoked meats, dishes and delicacies. All stalls abounded with products. The Mayor of the Vilnius region Maria Rekść thanked all gathered for their work and the willingness to be together and then the rev. Jan Matusewicz consecrated all stalls and announced the beginning of celebrations.

All participants could taste delicious dishes and enjoy excellent atmosphere and beautiful weather.

“Melodia” and “Przyjaciółki” ensembles from Kalveliai led by Wilia Nowicka prepared performances for the festival.

We want to thank people who were actively involved in organizing this festival and who prepared their stalls and decorated them and all who came to the festival.
