Stanisław Widtmann appointed Energy Attaché in Warsaw

A new post was created in the Embassy of Lithuania in Warsaw – Energy Attaché. In September 2014 Stanisław Widtmann was assigned to this newly created position.

According to the Lithuanian Energy Minister “new post is necessary because of the strategic importance of Poland in implementing bilateral projects”. Lithuania and Poland jointly implement the project of construction a pipeline and a power interconnection.

The necessity of appointing an Energy Attaché who would be responsible for implementation of the Polish-Lithuanian energy projects was noticed few years ago. In 2011 the Lithuanian government consented to the appointment, but funds to create and maintain the new post were available as late as 2014. The position of Energy Attaché will be financed by the budget of the Ministry of Energy.

In 1994-1996 Stanisław Windtmann was the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine “Słowo Wileńskie” which was published in Lithuania in cooperation with the daily newspaper “Rzeczpospolita”. Then he became the Deputy Director of the Department of the National Minorities and Emigration at the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. When the Department was dissolved in 2009, he was appointed an advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister. In 2011-2012 Stanisław Widtmann was the Deputy Minister of Culture in Lithuania. He was responsible for the issues related to national minorities. Recently he has worked in the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy. He also was a member of the Supervisory Board of the LitPolLink energy project.
