St. Peter’s Church – on the track of Pope
In 2007, according to the act of Lithuanian government, was approved the program of adapting to the needs of tourism and pilgrimage sacred objects of Lithuania, which in 1993 had visited St. Pope John Paul II. Due to the economic crisis it was managed to perform only part of the intended work.
In order to maintain and to adapt to the needs of the great pilgrimage Lithuania sacred objects, which constitute the cultural heritage of Lithuania and are often visited by foreign pilgrims and tourists. At a meeting of the Government on July 16, 2007, the proposal was approved the continuation and completion of the pilgrimage route of St. Pope John Paul II.
Energy Minister Jaroslaw Niewierowicz suggested to get caught up on the list of protected objects and adjusted to the needs of pilgrims the Church of The spirit (lit. Šventosios Dvasios bažnyčia). The recommendation was accepted by members of the Government and will be addressed to the Bishops ‘ Conference, where a final decision has been reached. On the pilgrimage route now are, among others, the Cathedral in Vilnius and Kaunas, Vilnius gates of dawn, the Church in Trakai, churches in Piwaszuny, in Szydłowo and Hill of crosses near Szawle and Kalwaria Żmudzka.
