The Supreme Council of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania on Monday 6 November decided to accept the offer input in the governing coalition, but with a caveat.

Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Labour Party and the Order and Justice, possessing 78 seats in the newly elected parliament. On Tuesday confirmed his covenant initial coalition agreement. Coalition point out that the question of the coalition AWPL entrance remains open.

“AWPL accepted an invitation to co-creation of the ruling coalition, but with one caveat. Enter into the composition of the new coalition under conditions similar to those that got the party” Order and Justice. According to the MEP Waldemar Tomaszewski, AWPL already achieved one of stated objectives. By introducing to the Lithuanian Parliament – eight members, who in any circumstances, create their own parliamentary fraction.

“AWPL behave with moderately and not take part in a specific “market”. What will be in the near future, we’ll see. Especially, that the results of the election, the President Grybauskaite as well as the Lithuanian Parliament intend to undermine in the Constitutional Court” – said the AWPL leader Waldemar Tomaszewski.

Meanwhile, leaders of the victorious party approved coalicions plans for “sphere of influence”. Social Democrats (they have 38 seats) received the ministries of finance, foreign affairs, national security, communications, economy, health and justice. The Labour Party (29 seats) received ministries of agriculture, education and science, energy, social services and employment and culture. Party “Order and Justice” (11 seats) received the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Environment.

Atmosphere around the election allows to assume that the division of the center-left coalition will not be final. As early as Tuesday afternoon coalition proposed for AWPL a position of the Minister, although on Monday Butkevičius offered only Vice-Ministers positions. Coaliton plans can veto a verdict of the Constitutional Court, whose decision will be taken on Saturday.

In the case of joining to the ruling coalition on terms equivalent to the Party “Order and Justice”, AWPL have received two Ministers position. Representatives of AWPL depends, that in the new government program have been included specific requirement: the transition in the heating sector for biofuel, to create new jobs in countryside areas and increase energy security and other.

Social Democratic Party leader Algirdas Butkevičius, the candidate for Prime Minister – expressed his belief that participation AWPL in a government coalition is strategically important issue, which would facilitate the process of improving Polish-Lithuanian relations and would help resolve the energy problems that require arrangements with neighboring countries. Butkeviciuč has already announced that his first foreign visit as a Prime Minister will be in neighboring countries – Poland and Latvia.
