AWPL’s election conference

Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania’s conference took place on Saturday, September 15 in a Polish Culture House in Vilnius. Representatives of organizations and national communities that run for office from AWPL’s list were thanking Mr Tomaszewski, the party’s leader, and giving him souvenirs.

The atmosphere and participants’ opinions were showing that AWPL really believes in its victory in the coming election. “We feel the voters’ support; Lithuanian press says that we are crossing the electoral threshold. I hope that several of our candidates will become MPs.”- said Waldemar Tomaszewski to PL DELFI. The leader of Belarusian Speech Community of Franciszek Skoryna, Ms Marija Matusewicz, was even more unhesitating in her opinions: “We’re tired of being those with little influence. We want a better live for ourselves and the whole country. The conservative government will lead us all to extreme poverty. Soon we will receive heating bills and it is going to be a nightmare.”- she said to PL DELFI. During her speech she announced that if she becomes an MP, other politics will not have an easy life with her. “When I get to the Seimas, I won’t be silent. I won’t eat them up, but I will bite.”-she kept kidding.

The conference was also an official beginning of AWPL’s electoral campaign. “The conference is a ceremonial opening of electoral campaign that started with a holy mass in the Franciscan church. We asked God for support of the electorate and we thanked Him for all our previous achievements. We managed to unite Polish community, but not only the Polish one. Also Lithuanian groups are joining. We unite all the people of good will.”-emphasized once again Waldemar Tomaszewski.
