Breakthrough in the Case of the Polish School in Paluknys: It Will Become an Independent Institution
There has been a breakthrough in the case of the school in Paluknys, in the Trakai District. After reviewing the situation of the Longin Komołowski Gymnasium, which is currently being reorganised into a branch of the Henryk Sienkiewicz Gymnasium in Lentvaris, the Lithuanian Ministry of Education has decided to establish an independent school with Polish as the language of instruction.
According to information from the Ministry of Education, the independent school with Polish as the language of instruction is to be established by 1 September 2027. Legal matters related to its establishment will be prepared by an interinstitutional working group. The group is to include representatives of the Office of the President, the Government, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Trakai District Municipality. The school will be headed by an independent principal, while its funding will be provided by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.
The first meeting of the working group is scheduled for next week. Currently, the ministry owns nearly 100 educational institutions, including gymnasiums and vocational schools. The school in Paluknys will be the first institution directly subordinate to the ministry where Polish will be the language of instruction.
