The Vilnius Region. Important decisions for the benefit of Polish school students

Tomorrow, on July 28th, the Council of the Vilnius Region Municipality is scheduled to meet. The majority of councilors in this municipality are from the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance. During the meeting, they plan to adopt a resolution. The resolution pertains to Polish language textbooks adapted to the updated curriculum.

The AWPL-CFA faction proposes crucial amendments, calling on Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sports to:

“(…) ensure the translation of textbooks adapted to the updated curriculum (mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history) into the Polish language;

the proposal is also to increase the amount of the student basket for purchasing textbooks. This increase would apply to students of national minority schools. The current amount is from 25.54 euros to 40 euros per student. The goal is to provide adequate translation and printing of textbooks with this increased funding..”

The resolution emphasizes a crucial point. The Association of Teachers of Polish Schools in Lithuania, known as “Macierz Szkolna,” and the Union of Poles in Lithuania have been working on this issue for many years. However, the Government has not taken any action in this matter.
