Lithuanian MPs Invited to Warsaw

After a long break, members of the Lithuanian Seimas received an invitation from their fellows in Warsaw. A delegation of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs is going to go to the Polish Sejm. It will be the first meeting at this level since the authorities in Poland changed a year ago.

Ten Lithuanian MPs are going to begin their two-day visit in Warsaw on 12th September. As the Committee Chairman Gediminas Kirkilas has said, at the meetings with the Polish fellows, issues regarding Europe will be brought up mainly. Other matters that will be discussed are both countries’ projects on energy economics and transport, defence and security cooperation, as well as development of relations at the parliamentary level.

In Gediminas Kirkilas’s opinion, the Polish-Lithuanian relations are currently going through a chilling period. The reason, among others, is different views on the issues concerning the Polish minority in Lithuania, for example the legalisation of original names spelling there.
