Polish Discussion Club at March of Remembrance in Molėtai

On Monday afternoon, a March of Remembrance took place in Molėtai, the aim of which was to commemorate about 2,000 Jewish inhabitants of the town murdered 75 years ago, who constituted almost all of the Jewish community. Poles from Lithuania, representatives of the Polish Discussion Club (PKD), participated in the March as well.

“A sea of people was today in Molėtai. We’re proud that it didn’t lack in Poles and the white and red colours. Also the Polish Discussion Club, along with people of goodwill from all around Lithuania and the world, went today from the old synagogue building to the place of torments, in which 2,000 Jews were murdered in one day, in order to pay tribute to the Holocaust victims. May this tragedy never happen again,” commented the members of the PKD.

In the March of Remembrance took part, among others, Vytautas Landsbergis, the first leader of independent Lithuania; Juozas Olekas, Minister of the National Defence; members of the Seimas; Faina Kukliansky, Chairman of the Jewish Community of Lithuania. Earlier the victims of Holocaust in Molėtai were commemorated by President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
