Šimašius: Politicians strung along school communities for a long time

‘On Friday we discussed the issue of reorganization of the school network in Vilnius with Minister Pavalkis. Reorganization that was planned should be realized’ said Mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius.

‘We agreed on what responsible politicians should agree – one should not succumb to the influence of one or the other interest group, follow the rational criteria ant the interest of Vilnius resinents’ – said the Mayor of Vilnius.

Šimašius added that in cases of specific schools there were ‘pressures from members of Parliament’, and school communities were, for a long time, ‘strung along and fed unfounded promises’.

Guest of the Political Salon of ‘Znad Willi’ Radio informed that, among others, it was decided That Adam Mickiewicz Secondary School will not assemble forms 5 from September. ‘It must be said that Adam Mickiewicz and John Paul II secondary schools will win on this reorganization – they are the schools that do their jobs, prepare their students well for final exams, however they are not filled enough, because some other schools were being supported artificially. School with one or two senior forms were being kept artificially’ – Šimašius shared his opinion.

Lazdynai High School, Joachim Lelewel High School and Szymon Konarski High School will not have forms 11-12.

As for whether Vilnius ‘Syrkomla’ will be granted the status of a long secondary school, it will depend on whether it manages to find a second shareholder.
