The Lithuanian government approved the plan of discrimination prevention

During today’s session, the Lithuanian government approved the interinstitutional plan of discrimination prevention. The main objectives of this plan are: a decrease in the number of discrimination acts, a warranty of equal rights for men and women, as well as development of respect for every human being.

The plan focuses on the education of society about the necessity of discrimination prevention, the warranty of equal rights for men and women and the assessment of situation of people who need legal protection.

Moreover, the document contains the proposals for the popularization of information about institution which offer help to victims of discrimination, and promotion of non-government organizations’ activities, performed in the field of equal rights and discrimination prevention.

The provisions of the document will be implemented by the following institutions:  Ministry of Social Security and Labour, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Equal Opportunities Ombudsman’s Office, Law Institute of Lithuania, Department of Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Social Security and Labor and jobcentres.
