Festivities of the 20th anniversary of the Ponarska Family Association

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Ponarska Family Association began on Monday (29th of September). The ceremony was organized under the patronage of the ambassador of Poland in Lithuania, Jarosław Czubiński.

“The Association was established 20 years ago by Helena Pasierbska, who had devoted most of her life to reveal the Ponary massacre to the world. As a young girl, she spent half a year in the Lukiškės Prison and it was then, when she promised herself that if she would survive this, she would sacrifice her life to tell about this to the world. ” – said Maria Wieloch, the Director of the Ponarska Family Association.

At 10 a.m., there was an interdenominational prayer in Ponary, the wreaths were laid at the monument. There was also a mass. At 4 p.m. in the House of Polish Culture, there was a conference entitled “The Ponary massacre”.

On 30th September the ceremony was relocated to Zułów. In the afternoon, in the Museum in Maišiagala, the plaque commemorating Polish priests murdered in Vilnius during II World War, was unveiled and consecrated.
