They will be seeking the spokesman of equal opportunities

Temporarily acting as the spokesman of equal opportunities – Edita Žiobienė

Politicians are concerned with the fact that the Service of the Controller of Equal Opportunities has no permanent manager.

Since November 2013 the duties of the spokesman of equal opportunities has temporarily been performing Edita Žiobienė – the spokesman of the  protection of children’s rights.

“It is clear that the provision of equal opportunities for men and women is not on the top of the list of priorities, first of all –  for the Social Democrats. It is incomprehensible why during the whole year there didn’t appear a new manager and why he was not even searched. This can be regarded as a deliberate weakening of this important institution. “- says the deputy on the behalf of Liberal Dalia Kuodytė.

The representatives of non-governmental organizations also negatively assess the fact that the Service of the Controller of Equal Opportunities hasn’t had a permanent manager, yet.

“The representatives of the United Nations has previously indicated that the lack of a permanent spokesman is a negative phenomenon. We see, that the institution of the controller is addressed mostly by people from the cities, and in other places this facility is not sufficiently known. We would like to have a stronger institution “- says Vilana Pilinkaitė Sotirovič, an expert from the Centre of the Development of Equal Opportunities.

The Minister of Justice Juozas Bernatonis agreed with the fact that the appointment of a new spokesman of equal opportunities is getting prolonged and expressed the hope that this year this problem would be solved.
