Chairman of the Sejm Vydas Gedvilas said that he may allow to write the names of the original documents.

“I think you can allow the original record of the name in the passport. With success the Latvians practice. We can learn that from them” – for the weekly “Vilnaius diena” said Gedvilas.

The President of the Parliament is not sure if we can accept this amendment within two months, as the Vice-President of the Parliament said Social Democrat Gediminas Kirkilas.

The government is prepared by a special working group recommendations on the issue of national minorities. The recommendations have addressed the issue of the original spelling of names. The working group proposes that at the request of the person concerned, the names in the documents were written using not only the Lithuanian alphabet, but also other letters of the Latin alphabet.
