The Seimas accepted the new governmental policy

The members of the government were sworn in 

On December 13 the Seimas accepted a policy of the new centre-left government. The coalition voted in favour of the policy, the liberals and conservatives were against it, “The Way of Courage” abstained form voting. 

83 members voted in favour of the policy, 39 members were against it, and 9 members abstained form voting.

In the document the government proposes to lead Lithuania towards the time of prosperity and mentions the respect for fundamental values such as social solidarity, justice and human rights.

One chapter of the document is devoted to the rights of national minorities. The government made a promise that they would prepare a new law on national minorities.

The new governing coalition consists of four parties: social democrats, the Labour Party (Darbo partija), “Order and Justice” (“Tvarka ir teisngumas”) and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania  [Polish: Akcja Wyborcza Polaków na Litwie; AWPL].

The members of the new government were sworn in.

Jarosław Niewierowicz (AWPL) – the Minister of Energy;
Rimantas Šadžius (social democrats) – the Minister of Finance;
Juozas Olekas (social democrats) – the Minister of Defence;
Šarūnas Birutis (the Labour Party) – the Minister of Culture;
Rimantas Sinkevičius (social democrats) – the Minister of Transport and Communication;
Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis (social democrats) – the Minister of Health;
Algimanta Pabedinskienė (the Labour Party) – the Minister of Social Security and Labour;
Dainius Pavalkis (the Labour Party) – the Minister of Education and Science;
Juozas Bernatonis (social democrats) – the Minister of Justice;
Linas Antanas Linkevičius (social democrats) – the Minister of Foreign Affairs;
Birutė Vėsaitė (social democrats) – the Minister of Economy;
Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas (“Order and Justice”) – the Minister of the Interior;
Vigilijus Jukna (the Labour Party) – the Minister of Agriculture.
