Polish Art Gallery „Upon Neris” would like to invite everyone to Jolanta Śniezko’s vernissage “Gloria” (“Glory”). The opening took place on 7th December at 5pm.

It is a presentation of Jolanta Śnieżko’s, an artist from Vilnius, work, from the “Christmas” cycle. Around 20 miniatures will be presented; they are made on 100 years old boards, using tempera egg yolk technique and golden foil. 100 years ago icons were made using this technique.

“While I was in a village, at my grandma’s house, I noticed an old wardrobe that was thrown away and a box. Then, I had not been interested in tempera egg yolk technique for a long time, but I managed to recognise that icons on the wardrobe were made using this method. I cut the wardrobe and renewed the icons a bit, then I started working on my grandma’s old box, which later joined “wardrobe” on the exhibition.”— told PL DELFI Jolanta Snieżko.

“After a while all people in the village knew that they should not throw away any old things or boards. And they started bringing them all to me”— she laughed.

During the vernissage, the artist treated her guests with warm spiced beer, śliżyki, mandarins and sugar lollipops, which she made by herself. Christmas food goes along with the Christmas theme of the exhibition, as Śnieżko said.

And Wanda Mieczkowska, the owner of the gallery, revealed to PL DELFI that the vernissage would take place with candle light.

“The municipal service told us that because of renovating works, electricity would be cut off on Friday, in the whole building. Unfortunately, we were unable to change the date of the vernissage, so we came up with the idea of using candles during the opening of the exhibition.”— explained Mieczkowska.

Jolanta Śnieżko was born in Vilnius. She is an alumna of the Vilnius Fine Arts Academy. She studied stained glass window art, simultaneously devoting much time to easel painting. Since 1998 she has been participating in exhibitions, she has had 15 individual ones, she also has taken part in over 50 group exhibitions, e.g in Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and France. Since 2003 she has been a member of Association of Painters of Lithuania.
