Next Tuesday (25.09) the Polish Art Gallery ‘Znad Wilii’ in Vilnius starts a new season with an out of the ordinary exhibition ‘ Vilnius 1937’.

In the fallow season the Gallery awaits tourists and clients but in Autumn the exhibitions start. We are presenting our new project, a unique exhibition of photography ‘Vilnius 1937’.

‘The author is unknown but the pictures were taken in 1937 by a person with both artistic and journalistic skills. There are shots of places in Vilnius which no longer exist, completely destroyed during the war ( the granaries, the area near the Niemiecka Street)’- told PL DELFI Wanda Mieczkowska, the owner of the Gallery.

In the pictures there are depicted the suburbs of that time and some scenes of the city life, such as the celebration of the Independence Day near the town hall or the workers paving the street with setts. ‘The pictures present an unknown part of the Vilnius’ interwar history. They are worth to be displayed.’- Mieczkowska pointed out.

This exhibition ends on 22th October but other ones will be displayed, such us ‘Between the flowers and still life’ (‘Między kwiatami a martwą naturą’) of Jolanta Caban, an artist from Warsaw; an exhibition of works of two famous painters: Henryk Natalewicz and Ryszard Filistowicz and one of photography: ‘Following Jan Bułhak: Vilnius and Olsztyn’ (‘Wileńsko-Olsztyńskimi śladami Jana Bułhaka’)
