National Reading in Šalčininkai

On September 9, the Public Library of the Šalčininkai District Municipality organised a National Reading event. The event aims to encourage reading of literary works, it is also a good opportunity to meet, learn about Polish literature and encourage reading of books.

The reading matter of the 12th edition of the National Reading was “Nad Niemnem” by Eliza Orzeszkowa. The reading took place in a beautiful gazebo located by a pond in Šalčininkai.

The event was attended by Grzegorz Jurgo, director of the administration of the Šalčininkai District Local Government, and Jadwiga Sinkiewicz, president of the Polish University of the Third Age in Šalčininkai.

At the beginning of the event, the guests were introduced to the history of the action and the biography and works of Eliza Orzeszkowa. Then everyone read excerpts from the work. At the end of the meeting, the participants took a photo together.
