USA Protect Our Rights: Rally by the Embassy of the United States

„USA protect our rights,” „Give the land back to its rightful owners” – under such slogans a mass meeting took place in front of the Embassy of the United States in Vilnius in defence of the national minorities’ education and against the discrimination concerning land restitution. “The United States of America are the best guarantor and defender of democracy in the world. Democracy, however, is leadership of the majority with respect for the minority’s rights. Lithuania does not pass the exam in the defence of minorities’ rights, does not respect what it’s included in legislative acts and international conventions,” thus the organisers justified their choice of the place for the protest. It is the second rally by the American embassy this year. “We have come to harm in many aspects, with surnames, with street names, and after 26 years they did not give independence back to us, as well as our patrimony,” one of the protest organisers, Renata Cytacka, said during the meeting. The rally was organised by the Strike Committees of Polish Schools in Lithuania, Committees for the Defence of Schools, and Parents’ Forum at Polish Schools in Lithuania.
