Poland and Lithuania on the Same Level of Democracy

The level of democracy in Lithuania is higher than in Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Belarus. However, it is lower than in neighboring Estonia and Latvia – says the report from a famous American organization, Freedom House.

Each year the organization assesses the way 29 post-comunist countries deal with the reforms. The Democracy index is influenced by e.g. the Government’s attitude, free election and media, or the level of corruption.

According to the report, Lithuania, together with Poland, holds the fifth and the sixth place among 29 countries. The highest rating was given to Estonia, the lowest to Uzbekistan.

Freedom House reproaches Lithuania for corruption, which directly influences the result.

The Freedom House organization highlights that the situation was improved in Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Serbia, Bosnia and Belarus. Ukraine and Russia present worse results than a year ago.
