Dual citizenship – for some
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, has signed the amendments to the Citizenship Law, which will allow the especially meritorious for Lithuania to have dual citizenship.
The amendment of the Act provides that the especially meritorious citizen of Lithuania will be able to keep the Lithuanian citizenship after obtaining a citizenship of another state.
The amendment also provides mentioned person with the opportunity to reclaim the Lithuanian passport without having to resign from the citizenship of another state, if has been previously deprived of the Lithuanian citizenship.
The outstanding contribution to our country is considered the activity that adds to strengthening of statehood and country’s position on the international arena.
The amendments proposed by the head of state were passed by the Lithuanian Parliament on 22nd December 2015
The current Lithuanian laws prohibit dual citizenship: if a person acquires citizenship of another country, most commonly loses citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania.
