During the Vilnius Marathon was distributed more than a ton of Polish apples

More than a ton of apples and a half thousand bottles of apple juice were distributed on the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Institute in Vilnius on the Vilnius Marathon finish line number 11. Runners and their supporters received the fruits from Poland under the # eatapples programme.

Poles were the largest group of foreigners among the thirteen thousand participants in the 11th Vilnius Marathon. Traditionally, in the race took part the team staff of the Polish Embassy in Vilnius. This time they participated in a relay marathon.

The most spectacular point of the marathon was the attendance of a charitable racing group from Poland “Spartans for the Children”. With the help of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Institute in Vilnius, the foundation decided to organize the charity event to collect money for children from Orphanage in Vilnius. Well known throughout Europe, the group ran 42 kilometers in full Spartan armour. Michał Leśniewski, the head of the Foundation ” Spartans for the Children” informed us that the Spartans handed to the children gifts worth more than 7000 zł.

During the event acted Warsaw percussion group Bloco Central, which rouse the runners to battle with Brazilian rhythms.

The stand with apples on the finish line of the marathon is a continuation of the poster action promoting Polish food in Lithuania which has been realised since two weeks.
