Jarosłąw Narkiewicz: Do they want Poles out of Lithuania?

The Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (AWPL) criticised the motion of the State Commission on the Lithuanian language concerning original spelling of names and surnames and assured that they will fight for the right of Poles in Lithuania to write their names as they are originally spelled.

“Now the only solution for Poles who want to write their names as they are originally spelled is to renounce Lithuanian citizenship. Is that what they want? Maybe they really want Poles out of Lithuania.” – said the Vice Chairman of the Seimas from AWPL Jarosław Narkiewicz.

Narkiewicz declared that the explanation given by the Commission did not change the views of the party which will “still fight for original spelling of names and surnames on the main page of the passport”.

The State Commission on the Lithuanian language gave its consent to the original spelling of names and surnames of foreigners and their spouses in passports.

In other cases the Commission propose to maintain the principle according to which “names and surnames are written as they sound”.
