The Embassy of Poland in Vilnius joined the campaign #jedzjabłka

After the introduction of an embargo by Russia on Polish apples a social campaign titled “Jedz jabłka na złość Putinowi” (Eat apples to spite Putin) was formed on social networking websites which encourage to eat Polish apples.

On Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #jedzjabłka you can find photos of many well-known persons who joined the campaign.

The Russian government has introduced an embargo not only on apples, nut also on Polish pears, cherries, sweet cherries, nectarines, plums and all the varieties of cabbage (white cabbage, red cabbage, celery cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccolis and cauliflowers). According to the data of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Poland in 2013 has exported to Russia over 804 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables worth almost 336 million Euros. Total losses of Poland resulting from the embargo imposed by Russia could be about 500 million Euros.
