Jarosław Narkiewicz: The old form of the exam needs to be brought back

„A lot of work awaits us in order to protect the position of AWPL (Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania) that won’t change in the coalition: not only the normalised Lithuanian language exam, but also the normalised program should be called off.” says Jarosław Narkiewicz, the vice-president of the Seimas from the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania.

„It is not surprising that the exam results are worse than in the previous years. This year, the exam had a different form and content than in the past. If not for the concessions that were introduced before the exam also for the students from Lithuanian classes, these results would be even worse.” thinks Jarosław Narkiewicz.

In his opinion, this year’s results are proof that the normalised exam should not be introduced at all. He also assured that AWPL will still seek to realise its position: the old form of the exam should be brought back.

„As we planned, after the results are announced we will start working. We need to decide how to realise our demands, in what period of time and what kind of arguments to use to protect out position against other members of the coalition. We are unambiguously right, it will depends on the members of the coalition whether they will take these facts into consideration.” underlines the vice-president of the Seimas.

When asked whether the exam results can be a proof of the discrimination against the students of the national minority and at the same time a pretext on the basis of which the Tribunal in Strasburg could be notified, Narkiewicz underlines that the students themselves and their parents should decided about that.

„The exam results make it possible to undertake other legal steps in order to prove our rationale. We said many times that we will be happy to give out any legal or substantive aid to prove the discrimination against the national minorities.” said J. Narkiewicz.
