A scaffolding will be set up at the Balinski Mansion in Jaŝiūnai this coming Monday. It is hard to believe, that the renovation works will start at last, after 18 years of waiting and mishaps . On Tuesday, 16 of April, a letter was signed about handing over the construction site to the contractor, who is to accomplish the Mansion renovation.

The site investigation, archeological works and the construction will be carried out by the Ekstra statyba company, who won the tender. The following people will be supervising the works: the company specialist Laurynas Paulikas and employees of Ŝalĉininkai District Municipality Architecture and Construction Department – department manager Wiesława Rutkowska and specialist Zofia Studiennikowa.

The works of the I-st stage of project named “Renovation and adaptation to the tourism purpose of a historic building of Ŝalĉininkai Region – Mansion in Jaŝiūnai ” include a renovation of the mansion façade, essential renovation indoors, including adaptation of one of the rooms to the standards of conference room, as well as carrying out archeological examination, construction and polychromic works. The construction is planned to last 22 months, it can be extended once only for another 6 months. The value of project I-st stage is 5 million 63 thousand and 728 LTL.

The Jaŝiūnai Mansion, regarded as one of the most important tourist objects in Ŝalĉininkai Region, was not very lucky in the last few dozen years. It survived through the war time, but started to deteriorate during Soviet era, when it was handed over to the nearby sovkhoz administration. The building complex was handed over to the Ŝalĉininkai District Municipality in 1966. Ever since the municipality have been trying to start the renovation of the deteriorated Mansion as soon as possible, but with no effect.

The funds for the Mansion renovation were given to the municipality merely in 2009. The government, who initially allocated the funds, withdrew from the sponsoring the project last minute, unfortunately. People started the applications, requests and proposals again. The firmness of district municipality people in raising money and winning over the ministry officials for the necessity and need to renovate Jaŝiūnai Mansion succeeded eventually.
