“Syrokomlówka’s” students in the Parliament

@ DELFI

At Jarosław Narkiewicz’s a vice-chair of the Parliament invitation, students of the Wladysław Syrokomla Secondary School performed in the parliament as a part of the Defenders of Freedom of the Fatherland Day celebration. The event took place during a concert dedicated to the memory of the fallen on 13th January.

Last year history teachers: Wiktor Łowczyk, Maryna Taraszkiewicz, and Maria Narkiewicz, in a commemoration of the Defenders of Freedom of the Fatherland Day along with students put on an adaptation of the January’s events. A special guest Czesław Okińczyc who was one of those who signed the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania, said half jokingly that students should also perform in the parliament next year.

A performance in the Parliament is something extraordinary. It cannot be compared to performing at school. Gravity of this place makes you feel important, feel that you are part of something bigger. Not everyone has had the chance to present their artistic work in the Parliament. Everything went down well, and everyone made their best” – said Karol Maracz 11th grade student, after the performance for PL DELFI.

“It’s the most important that the youth remembers, that the memory is cultivated in Polish schools, the memory that for the last 4 years has been criticized by so-called nationalists. This performance proves that our youth as Lithuanian citizens care for spiritual values, patriotic values, and the mother tongue is only to help” – said about the performance Jarosław Narkiewicz’s a vice-chair of the parliament.

“Students understand the gravity of today’s performance at the Parliament. They understood that it’s a great responsibility and honour, that not everyone is granted. They knew that they represented not only themselves, our school but all the Poles living in Lithuania”- commented, happy with the performance Maryna Taraszkiewicz, for PL DELFI.

Jarosław Narkiewicz’s a vice-chair of the parliament invited everyone to his study in the Parliament. The meeting was attended by the leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania faction in the Parliament Rita Tamašunienė; her deputy Wanda Krawczonok; member of the Parliament and the chairman of the Association of Poles in Lithuania Michał Mackiewicz; and member of the Parliament and chairman of the Polish Educational Society in Lithuania Józef Kwiatkowski.

“On behalf of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania I would like to thank you. Today we were very proud of you. You proved that the Polish youth in Lithuania is not indifferent, that knows and remembers the history of the country. I would also like to congratulate and thank the teachers, and class tutors, who pass the historic knowledge to the next generation, that they do not rely only on textbooks, but encourage to active discovering of the history. This kind of initiatives makes you active in the society, you are becoming the genuine citizens of Lithuania” – said Tamašunienė.

At the ending of the meeting the vice-chair of the Parliament gave the students and the teachers diplomas and small gifts.
