„Children’s’ dreams 2012” project has been finished

@ Kurier Wilenski

167 gifts were given to children from families that belong to a group of social risk.

It has been the third time that the social project “Children’s’ dreams” has been realised and as many as 27 local governments participated in it. Vilnius Region Self-Government has also joined the action. 13 communes of the Vilnius Region participated in the project: Medininkai, Bezdonys, Marijampolė, Lavoriškes, Pagiriai, Riešė, Avižieniai, Nemėžis, Mickūnai, Sudervė, Kalveliai, Zujūnai and Nemenčinė.

Dreams of children from families that are in the group of social risk were published on the www.vaikusvajones.lt website. In the dreams published the children spoke about presents they would like to receive for Christmas.

People of good will, who wanted to make the children’s dreams come true, could do it in three ways: picking a dream on the website they could buy a present themselves and give it to a child personally; they could send it to the social centre, working with a child, and then it was given to the child on the behalf of the buyer. They could also transfer a specific amount of money to the account of a social centre, which takes care of a child. The people working in a centre were then buying a gift and giving it to the child.

Social workers collected 202 cards with Christmas dreams from children from the Vilnius district, 167 of which were realised. The numbers are not final yet, because, although the programme “Children’s dreams 2012” has been finished, the dreams are still being realised.
