An exhibition devoted to the January Uprising in Vilnius

Parliament has announced that year 2013 is devoted to the January Uprising. Commemoration starts with the exhibition named: Tribute to the January Uprising in art works by Artur Grottger “Polonia” and “Lituania”, in the building of the Lithuanian Art Museum (Lietuvos dailės muziejus) in Vilnius.

 “This exhibition opens this year’s Lithuanian museums trail, devoted to the commemoration of 1863 Uprising.”- said during a press conference, historian Mindaugas Šapoka. The event takes an educational form and consists of original photographs of works by A. Grottger from the collection of the National Museum in Krakow

All of the photographs of Works by A. Grottger were taken by a photographic studio of the National Museum in Krakow.

Artur Grottger- Polish painter, one of the leading representatives of the Polish Romanticism in painting, illustrator, graphic artist, the author of “kartony” series devoted to the January Uprising.

The opening ceremony is on January 24 (Thursday), at 16:00, in the Lithuanian Art Museum (Arsenalo 3A Street). The exhibition lasts until 17 March 2013.

The exhibition is organized by the Polish Institute in Vilnius, and the Lithuanian Art Museum, and the National Museum in Krakow as a partner.
