“The 700th anniversary of Vilnius in Polish” concert. The Polish culture is ubiquitous in Vilnius.

The Extensive celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Vilnius are now taking place. Poles living in Lithuania also joined the celebration. On Sunday, the 27th of August, in the square near the central entrance to The House of Polish Culture in Vilnius, a concert entitled “ The 700th anniversary of Vilnius in Polish” was held. It was organized by the Vilnius branch of the Union of Poles in Lithuania.

Famous artists from the Vilnius region performed on stage. Everyone who came to celebrate this beautiful jubilee of the city could admire performances of as many as 9 Polish bands, such as “Folk Vibes”, “Kapela Wileńska”, “Grzegorzanie”, “Perła”, “Wilia”, “Ojcowizna”, “Melodia”, “Wilenka” and “Sto Uśmiechów”.

Famous and appreciated singers such as Katarzyna Zvonkuvienė, Andrzej Stankiewicz, Justyna Leonowicz, and Sofija Plisko also sang.

During the concert, it was also possible to try Polish delicacies and for the youngest participants there was a playground.

„This occasion, the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, is certainly excellent. Poles had a great contribution to the city’s development. It is a multiethnic city, a city for everyone but we, Poles, are particularly pleased that such a beautiful event is taking place at The Polish House “ said Waldemar Tomaszewski, The president of the Union of Poles in Lithuania, the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance and a Member of the European Parliament.

Waldemar Tomaszewski emphasized that not only the flagship Polish bands performed on stage but also those from the city’s outskirts. He noted that in Polish schools there are also a lot of Polish national bands.

„Our Vilnius region is rich in the Polish culture. Borders change, countries disappear, and others arise but the strength of a nation will be determined by its culture. Here in Vilnius our Polish culture is ubiquitous and we thank all those who contribute to it- the Vilnius branch of the Union of Poles in Lithuania, group members, group leaders “ said W. Tomaszewski.

Waldemar Tomaszewski also mentioned that he returned from the Šalčininkai region, where the summer farewell party in Čiužiakampis took place. „ I felt the pride of our Vilnius region- our present, western Vilnius region, which is within the borders of Lithuania, but also of the eastern Vilnius region, which is outside the borders of our country. We create a phenomenal community- a million of Poles living closely- from Daugavpils to Grodno and it should continue to be so”.

„Thank you very much and God bless you and your families!” he added.
