Representatives of Polish organizations met with Linkevičius

On Friday representatives of Polish community in Lithuania met with the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius. During the unofficial meeting, matters of Polish-Lithuanian cooperation at interstate and local level were discussed.

The meeting was attended by: chairperson of the Polish Discussion Club Ewelina Mokrzecka, member of the board of PDC Andrzej Pukszto, directors of Polish schools in Vilnius Czesław Dawidowicz and Adam Błaszkiewicz and Ewelina Dobrowolska, coordinator of the European Foundation for Human Rights.

“I am glad that such meetings take place. The Lithuanian side is more and more opened to conversation, to hear about our problems and to seek for answers for them” – said chairperson PDC Ewelina Mokrzecka during interview with zw.lt.

As she added, during the meeting a lot of attention was devoted to the matter of Polish education in Lithuania – textbooks, Lithuanian language exam or additional point for secondary school-leaving examination from native language. Lawyer at the European Foundation for Human Rights Ewelina Dobrowolska raised the issue of original spelling of surnames and Lithuania’s compliance with international obligations.

“These issues are known to the minister and he announced that he will try to influence its positive resolution. He also expressed  hope that similar meetings, in various configurations, will take place on a regular basis and that the Polish community will inform the authorities representatives about their problems and expectations” – stressed Mokrzecka.
