The Pole from Žemaitija awarded for contributions to the Kurpie Region of Poland

Irena Duchowska, the President of the Unit of the Association of Poles in Lithuania “Lauda” and the Associationon of Poles living in Kėdainiai, a composer and a poet was awarded the Kurpiowski Nepomuk Prize (from the name of Saint John Nepomucene) at the Festival of Folk Culture “Kurpie Wedding” in Kadzidło.

Irena Duchowska was among six winners. She is a poet, teacher, animator of culture and social activist. She was born in Vilnius Region and after starting her own family, she settled in Žemaitija and set the Association of Poles in Kėdainiai.

During the award ceremony, Mrs Duchowska said that her greatest happiness is having the opportunity to speak Polish with people who perfectly understand the mother tongue and her love for Poland and all that relates to Poland.
