The Delegation of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in Lithuania

On the 13th of June, the delegation of the Committee on Local Government and Regional Policy of the Sejm arrived in Vilnius. Deputies to the Polish Parliament met with the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament Seimas Victoras Pranckietis, members of the Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities of the Seimas, deputies belonging to the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Republic of Poland and the Deputy Minister of the Interior who supervises the regional policy.

The visit of Polish politicians to Lithuania started on Monday in Druskininkai. The deputies met with the mayor of the town Ričardas Malinauskas, who described among others the experiences of the resort in the realisation of projects financed from EU funds. The guests also visited the most important tourist facilities in Druskininkai.

The members of the Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities in the Parliament of Lithuania want to find out about the experiences of Poland concerning the enhancing of regional policy, raising financial autonomy of local governments, decentralisation of local governments and including local communities in decision-making processes.

In the statement given by the Chancellery of the Lithuanian Parliament we read: “Receiving the delegation will enable to enhance the ties between the parliaments of Lithuania and Poland and will create conditions for sharing important experiences concerning state reforms for the deputies of both countries. The visit will be the continuation of productive meetings which took place between 2009-2011”.

On the 14th of June, the delegation from Poland also took part in the commemoration of the Day of Mourning and Hope.
