Agnieszka and “Perła”: we are proud to represent Polishness

The enthusiasts of the Polish Folk Dance Ensemble “Perła” and its amazing performances in the “Kadagys” TV show suffered a disappointment. The project was unexpectedly shortened by two episodes and its final will take place this Sunday. “This is the last time we ask for your support and votes!” – says Agnieszka Olszewska, the leader of the band.

The news about the project ending came as a surprise not only to the viewers, but also to the participants. The Lithuanian TV3 channel does not comment in detail on the matter, but the Internet is full of guesses: the project lost to its competitor “Duets of Stars” show broadcast at the same time by the LNK channel, did not fulfil expectations, did not pay off financially… There are even opinions that the project was ended because the Lithuanian bands did not present themselves as good as the guests from Latvia and, primarily, “Perła” which went like a bomb, gaining sympathy of the viewers and jury.

“We are in a good situation, we came first two weeks in a row, in the third episode we came second, so we hope that we will not lose anything. I am a really busy person, I have a lot of work, therefore the unexpected ending of the project did not really worry me but I am really glad that I took part in it. I feel the most sorry for the “kids” from the band who are really worth staying until the end, so they feel some sadness, dissatisfaction – says Agnieszka.

The band has little time to prepare the final dance, they are still facing many challenges, but Agnieszka lifts the veil of secrecy and tells that the basis for the dance routine will be Cossack dances.

“Our choreographer, German Komarowski, has a hard nut to crack but he is a really talented and professional person and he knows what the audience needs” – smiles Agnieszka.

As she says, the participation in the project provided only positive emotions.

“We are delighted with everything and pleasantly surprised by the great support we gained. Even 100 people came to see us in the Kaunas Sports Hall, two large coaches full of people who cooperated to cheer us on. Last Sunday, almost 8500 people voted on us over the phone. We are very proud that we can represent Polishness, Polish culture, we are grateful to all our fans and we really ask for your support, for the last time, for your greater mobilization this Sunday!” – underlines Agnieszka Olszewska.

“I know that not only Poles in Lithuania cheered us on, I got a large number of mails, phone calls from my former and present customers, coworkers – I am a wedding party organizer. We surprised Lithuanians who had no idea how the Polish folklore looks up till now. We gained recognition even among the project participants. It is an amazing feeling when, in big euphoria, you leave the stage where thousands of people applaud you, with good evaluation from the jury, and even the participants applaud you” – adds Agnieszka.

There was also no lack of competition, which is usual in such projects, but we managed to find common ground with the majority of participants – and especially with a band from Latvia – she says.

The final of the “Kadagys” project will take place this Sunday, on 13th March, at 7.30 p.m.
