Modern and cosy – a renovated Polish school in Šumskas

On February the 4th, Primary School in Šumskas, located on the outskirts of Vilnius County, invited the guests to celebrate the finalisation of the renovation of the school.

The celebration was attended by: Mayor of Vilnius County Municipality Maria Rekść, councilman Stanisław Zajankowski, head of Department of Education Lilia Andruszkiewicz, head of Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism Edmund Szot, starost of Kalabariškės Municipality Krystyna Gierasimowicz. The Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Jarosław Narkiewicz, headmasters from nearby schools, teachers, parents and other guests also came to give their congratulations.

During a concert, children and teachers thanked everyone who had their part in the renovation of the school and everyone who aimed at creating a cosy and pleasant atmosphere for both the pupils and the employees.

Headmaster of the school, Janina Zienkiewicz, thanked the authorities of the County for the renovation and for developing the conditions for effective work of the school. Parents also expressed their honest gratitude for the concern for the well-being of their children, they voiced hope that their grandchildren will have the privilege to attend this beautiful facility.

Everyone present had the ability to observe the performances of the school’s young talents and listen to the list of changes undergone by the school presented by the Deputy Headmaster Leokadia Żukowska.

After the concert, Mayor Maria Rekść visited all classes of the school. Children were eager to show the rooms, talk about education and their interests. The Mayor was glad about the work done and renovated school, praised the school community for their activity and wished them good luck in all their actions.

Provost of St. Michael Archangel parish in Šumskas, Jan Czerniawski, blessed the renovated rooms.

Since the beginning of the year, the school community has been enjoying the renovated school in which new floors, roof and heating system has been placed. The ventilation system has been reconstructed, the boiler room has been changed to biofuel one, the sewer system and sewer disposal system have been renovated. The fire signalling system has been installed.

The project was financed from the Vilnius City Municipality budget and The Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund budget – 340 thousand euros.
