The local government raises the bar for headmasters
“Certification of heads of educational institutions is not a formality any more,” the Vilnius City Municipality claims. The authorities of the city examine carefully whether heads of schools and kindergartens match their qualifications, can perform their executive jobs, and are familiar with the educational policy.
Most of the headmasters had to go through the certification process until 1st January – enhance their qualifying levels or prove the possessed ones. The certification was passed by 250 headmasters out of 356, the rest has been doing it at the last moment.
A committee created by the local government evaluates planning and execution of school activity and equal students’ rights, cooperating with welfare partners, managing possessions and means, informing parents, developing employers’ qualifications, etc.
“Good heads of educational institutions often influence success of a particular school. Setting more ambitious goals for the Vilnius headmasters, the administration of the local government changes the working style and methods, orienting itself on extensive help for the schools,” Chairman of the Culture, Education and Sports Committee Vytautas Mitalas said.
