The final eliminations of the 24th Recitation Competition „Kresy 2015”

Julia Guniewicz and Edgar Kreiwelis, two of the winners, are going to represent Lithuania during the 24th Laureate Meeting “Kresy 2015” in Białystok. 60 participants took part in pan-Lithuanian final in Vilnius. How do young Poles from the Vilnius region interpret and recite Polish poetry? The audience of Wilnoteka will be able to find out shortly.

The “Kresy” Recitation Competition has been very popular in the Vilnius region. It motivates children and teenagers from Polish schools to familiarise themselves with Polish poetry and to share their own interpretation and rendition of the poems.

The competition is a very important event both for the Polish teachers in the Vilnius region and for the pupils of Polish schools. It consists of three stages: the first stage is the regional stage and took place before 15th October 2015. The second stage – the final eliminations, took place today in Vilnius and the participants came from the city itself and the regions of Trakai, Šalčininkai and Vilnius.

In the Polish Culture House almost 60 competitors fought to be a winner in three age groups. They had passed the school stage and the regional one. The popularity of the competition can be proved by the fact that in the regional stages there were over 800 participants.

The recitations were assessed by the jury presided by Magda Kruszyńska (Białystok), she was accompanied by Magda Kiszko-Dojlidko (Białystok), Lilia Kiejzik (Vilnius) and Irena Litwinowicz (Vilnius).

The winners of the oldest age groups, Julia Guniewicz and Edgar Kreiwelis, are going to take part in the third stage of the competition, the 24th Laureate Meeting “Kresy 2015” in Białystok from 7th to 12th December 2015. The award for the third place in the oldest age group went to Jarosław Macutkiewicz.

Due to 160th anniversary of Adam Mickiewicz’s death, the main organiser of the event, the Podlasie branch of the “Polish Community” association, would especially like to hear the interpretation of the poetry of our national bard. However, choice of his poems is not obligatory.

We invite the audience of Wilnoteka to watch videos from the central eliminations in respective age groups. More videos will be available tomorrow on wilnoteka.lt
