Polish theatre playbills in the repertory of Wróblewski Library

Polish theatre playbills, from which one can learn a lot about the development of the theatre institution in Europe and the history of the theatre in Pohulanca in Vilnius, are in the Wróblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Science in Vilnius.

The theatre playbills in the repertory of Wróblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Science in Vilnius belong to the oldest in Europe. They come from Vilnius, Cracow, Lviv, Grodno, Manheim, Heildelberg, Prague and other European cities. The odles playbill in the repertory originates from the year 1787 and is in Polish language.

Thetre historians, such as Vida Bakutytė, Jerzy Timoszewicz, Zbigniew Jędrychowski, Helmutas Šabasevičius and many others, make use of this repertory of playbills.

Among those theatre playbills in the repertory of Wróblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Science in Vilnius, there are many unique and exceptional copies. Justina Kučinskaitė wrote very intrestingly about this in her article “Vilniaus teatro afišos Lietuvos mokslų akademijos Vrublevskių bibliotekos rinkiniuose” (the theatre playbills in Vilnius, in the repertory of Wróblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Science ) published in the annual of Wróblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Science in Vilnius.
