Deputy Minister Tomašiunaitė: my priority will be education and teaching in minority schools

The implementation of the program, by Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, concerning education will be a priority for the Deputy Minister of Education and Science- Edyta Tomašiunaitė. Last Friday Edyta Tomašiunaitė took up the post of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science. “This week I am going to the meeting with the leaders of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, where all the demands, concerning my activity, will be deeply discussed” – said the Deputy Minister for the “Znad Wilii” Radio Station.

According to the preliminary meetings with the Minister of Education- Dainius Pavalkis, is favorably inclined towards the talks for standardizing Lithuanian language, as well as to unify the rules concerning the assembly of classes, and the criteria for the school accreditation.

Tomašiunaitė has not yet been assigned responsibilities and duties, it’s planned for the 20th of January, when the subsequent deputy ministries of education and science will be appointed. “My activity is focused on education and education in minority schools”-said Tomašiunaitė.

Tomšiunaitė, has certain doubts concerning the plans for standardization of Lithuanian language this year. “ It will be hard to implement any major changes, because of the exam that is going to be taken in May. In the future, they will try to extend the transition period, or to dismiss the standardized exam in its current form. That’s the next step in my work” – said deputy minister.
