Volunteer Day: “It’s worth taking action – changing the world and yourself”

@ Kurier Wilenski

Every year on the 5th of December we celebrate Volunteer Day  – the day of all people of goodwill who devote their time and energy to help others.

Voluntary service is claimed to be the basic aspect of civil activity and democracy. On the 5th of December 2012  Środowiskowe Centrum Usług Socjalnych Starostwa Czarnoborskiego w Wołczunach (the Local Social Service Centre of Czarny Bór County in Wołczuny) invited all volunteers for the celebration of the International Volunteer Day. It is the day devoted to people who help those in need, with dedication and voluntary work.

The group of volunteers of Środowiskowe Centrum Usług Socjalnych Starostwa Czarnoborskiego w Wołczunach consists of scouts with Katarzyna Kościuszkina as a leader, students from the Ursula Ledóchowska Secondary School in Czarny Bór and the group of adults led by Stanisław Wołodkowicz.

The volunteers received thanks and wishes from: Maria Rekść – the mayor of the Vilnius district municipality, Stefanija Stankewicz – the director of Wydział Opieki Socjalnej Administracji Samorządu Rejonu Wileńskiego (the Social Welfare Department of Vilnius District Municipality Administration), Tadeusz Aszkielaniec – The starost of Gmina Czarny Bór. They thanked all volunteers for their work, commitment and dedication in helping the lonely, poor, disabled and elders. During the meeting, Renata Adamowicz, the director of Środowiskowe Centrum Usług Socjalnych Starostwa Czarnoborskiego in Wołczuny, thanked and rewarded the most active volunteers. The celebration ended with games prepared by scouts.

The disabled and the scouts enjoyed the celebration together. Performances were given by the disabled and other participants of the celebration.
